Effect
Mineral oils/silicones vs. plant-based oils
Mineral oils, by-products from the petroleum refinery, andsynthetic siliconesact like a thin film on the skin and thus prevent the natural loss of water. As a result, the skin appears plumper and smoother in the short term, and wound healing is promoted in the short term. However, this effect is deceptive.
Due to the complete occlusion, i.e. the sealing of the skin, it no longer receives signals from the outside in order to regulate its own processes. The production of the skin's own moisturizing factors (NMF) is inhibited because the skin mistakenly assumes that it is sufficiently moisturized. In the long term, this leads to aweakness of the skin barrier and an increased loss of moisture after discontinuation of the product. In addition, microorganisms and pollutants can penetrate more easily.
In contrast, plant-based oils and emollients do not act as an impermeable barrier, but integrate into the natural skin metabolism - some faster, some slower. They resemble the skin's own lipids and are therefore absorbed and utilized by the skin.
While mineral oils and silicones can achieve a smoothing effect in the short term, natural fats offer sustainable and physiologically meaningful care. They support the natural functions of the skin, strengthen its resistance and ensure a healthy, radiant appearance.
Lipids of the skin - understanding skin physiology
A slight occlusive effect that delays the water loss of the skin and increases hydration is quite desirable in skin care. Plant-based emollients offer this advantage without sealing the skin like mineral oil derivatives. They are semi-permeable and are absorbed and metabolized by the skin due to their similarity to the skin's own lipids. In this way, they support the natural skin processes and strengthen the skin barrier.
The cosmetic effect of vegetable and natural fats is based on their fatty acids and accompanying substances. These are similar to the skin's own fats and fulfill important structural and physiological functions. They fluidize cell membranes, promote the absorption of active ingredients, provide essential fatty acids, and some even act as antioxidants.
Applied externally, plant fatty acids are incorporated into the hydro-lipid film and the lipid layers of the cornea, which stabilize the skin barrier and minimize water loss (transepidermal water loss - TEWL).
The decisive difference compared to mineral oil derivatives and silicones:
However, since they do not have a completely sealing effect and can be broken down by the skin's own enzymes, they integrate harmoniously into the skin's metabolism.
Particularly suitable for
Oily Skin
Pearl Color Shield is gentle to sensitive skin, as it is free of fragrances and denatured alcohol. The filters offer reliable protection against UV radiation without irritating or drying out the skin.
Dry Skin
3-5 drops of Rainforest Elixir daily are recommended for dry skin as the last step of the routine, after all other products.
Sensible Skin
Rianforest Elixir contains no potentially irritating substances and 1-2 drops daily at the end of the routine are suitable for sensitive skin.
Sustainability
Pili pulp oil is obtained as a by-product of Pili nut production, which contributes to durability.
Pili trees are mainly grown in the mineral-rich volcanic soil of the Philippine region of Bicol.
The oil is extracted by local communities that use traditional methods and thus secure their livelihoods.
This sustainable process not only supports the environment, but also promotes the economic development of the region.

Our plant-stars in this formulation
Moringa Oil
Moringa (Moringa oleifera) is a tree that grows in the tropical regions of the Philippines and is called the "tree of life" because of its exceptional nutrient density.
Moringa oil is obtained from the seeds of the moringa tree and contains a high concentration of monounsaturated fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other bioactive compounds. It absorbs easily into the skin without leaving a greasy film, making it suitable for all skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone skin.
Pili fruit oil
Pili pulp oil, also called Pili pulp oil, is a precious oil obtained from the pulp of the Pili nut (Canarium ovatum), a (endemic) tree native to the Philippines. It is a relatively new oil on the market and is becoming increasingly important for skin and hair due to its extraordinary properties.
Like Moringa oil, Pili pulp oil is gently cold pressed and is extraordinarily rich in essential fatty acids, beta-carotene and polyphenols.
It nourishes, protects and supports the collagen production and elasticity of the skin.
Squalane
Squalane is a saturated hydrocarbon that occurs naturally in our skin. It plays an important role in maintaining the moisture and suppleness of the skin. With increasing age, the production of the body's own squalane decreases, which can lead to drier and less elastic skin.
Squalane can be obtained from both vegetable sources (e.g. rice, sugar cane) and animal sources (e.g. shark liver).
We only use vegetable squalane, which comes from sustainable sources.
